A call out to theatrical productions to mark World Mental Health Day

This World Mental Health Day, 10th of October, people around the world will be raising awareness of suicide prevention. To shine a light on the sobering statistic that every 40 seconds someone in our world dies by suicide, individuals and organisations are coming together to take 40 seconds of action.

Both the Broadway production and North American touring cast of Dear Evan Hansen have already committed to taking action. On the 10th of October they are:

  • delaying the start of their show for 40 seconds

  • using this 40 seconds to give a speech to the audience about the need for greater action from leaders on mental health

  • including an insert in their programme about World Mental Health Day.

We are calling on other theatrical productions across the world to do the same.

Productions of all sizes and scale are invited and encouraged to participate – from Broadway to the West End, touring and regional theatre to school-sponsored productions. Help us shine a light on mental health and support our demand for greater action from leaders and governments.
